Virginia War Office was created in 1779 to oversee recruit's vouchers, officer's commissions, returns from county lieutenants, military claims to land warrants, and pension certificates. Col. William Davies was appointed as Commissioner of the War Office in 1780 and resigned his commission in 1782.
